Is the man jumping of a bridge?

A Mystery solved!

This picture was taken way back in September of 2011. I was single then and had a lot of time on my hands. So I could take advantage of traveling as and when I felt like. Today I have a beautiful 3-year-old daughter and a wonderful wife who happens to be the boss of me;). Well, as they say in France C’est la vie.

The picture certainly qualifies as an unusual picture doesn’t it? Is the man actually jumping off the bridge? If yes, what happened to him? If no why does it appear so? Let’s dive into the story behind it.

I was at a UNESCO world heritage site called Pont du Gard. The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct that crosses the Gardon River near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard in southern France. I have some beautiful pictures of this. If you would like to see them on Instagram and Facebook, please let me know by clicking here and I’ll share it with you.

I had gone under the aqueduct and sat by the banks of the river breathing in some fresh air. It was a sunny day, blue skies, pleasant weather. It was silent, you could hear the trees moving with the wind, a truly calming experience. I was admiring the architecture when I noticed a strange person jumping up and down. I used my camera with the focal length at 105mm and while he was jumping, it suddenly looked like he was jumping off the Aqueduct. And I caught the picture.

Now you are probably wondering what happened to the man, don’t worry he safely landed on the edge of the aquaduct. But it was strange how the perspective looked like he was jumping off the aquaduct.

Obviously, I had to investigate and so I went up the aqueduct and tried to replicate the same. The answer was simple, there were two ledges there and he was basically jumping from one ledge to the other. And from where I was sitting below the aqueduct, the perspective made it look like the man was jumping off a bridge.
